Greater Los Angeles is home to many movie stars and many of the biggest rock bands in the history of the United States. It is a car-centric city requiring much parking, and one of the most spread out cities in the world. It is also the biggest city of California. Los Angeles is the city with the second biggest population in the United States after New York, overtaking Chicago in the 1970s. The city has an area of 1,200 square kilometres (460 sq mi).
